4 Plants for the Beginning Plant Parent

It’s that time of year, folks. The sun’s out, the days are longer, and the smell of flowers and foliage is right around the corner. What better way to embrace the changing of seasons than to get some greens to liven up your space?

My in-laws, Josh, and I went to Mulhall’s to scope out the greenery. Let me tell ya, it has been years since I’ve stepped foot in there, and I can honestly tell you that I fell back in love with the place. After 2 ½ hours of oohing and ahhing, we left with the cutest baby plants to make a couple of mini-arrangements. Here are some pieces that can turn any plant killer into a green-thumbed guru.

Succulents | Care Level: Easy

Why they’re easy: they’re a desert plant, so they can store water in their leaves. If you forget to water for a couple of weeks, no biggie. They’re meant for minimal water and a lot of sunlight

Care: I like to water mine once every 2-3 weeks. Sometimes, I’ll mist them with water.

Lighting: Give it to em. They like to bask. Some examples include aloe vera, baby toes, rock plants and the well-recognized echeveria.

Air Plants | Care Level: Easy

Why they’re easy: Have you seen them? They don’t even need a pot to hang out in!

Care: Spritz with water when the ends of the leaves turn brown. It also says to hold under running water for a minute, turn it upside down to let the water drain, and let it be on its merry way for a couple of months.

Spider Plants | Care Level: Easy

Why their easy: I have had 2 different spider plants residing in my home for about 3 years now and all they do is keep growing. So I must be doing something right, am I right? These beautiful plants are really easy to propagate and give to your friends which I like to do.

So if you get a spider plant for your birthday, it’s not an afterthought but a thought of spreading joy and love, ok?

Care: water once a week. I like to feed this guy the rest of my coffee when it cools down.

What are your favorite plants to have at home?

    1. that’s ok, Tabitha!!
Just give em some sunlight, and you don’t have to water them so often. I like to wait until the soil is dry.
