Here is an easy way to DIY the perfect door hang to gift to someone special or to yourself this holiday season. These items were all under $10 at Hobby Lobby. Each piece of pine was $4.99, but right now they’re running a special on Christmas decor. Which means you can buy a ton of greenery to spruce up your home. All you need is 7 materials, and you will be able to craft this like a pro.
The tools you’ll need. The only thing that’s not pictured is a hot glue gun. The green plant wire is optional.
Arrange the pine leaves so they are opposite of each other, and the leaves cover the stems.
Take the twine and tie a knot around the center point. I tied a single knot and wrapped it around to double knot to the other side. Repeat 3 times.
Cut a 3 inch long piece of ribbon and wrap it around the center, covering the twine. Hot glue to secure.
Take your ribbon. Make a loop and secure it with your fingers
Make a lower loop back towards where your fingers are holding the center of the bow. Repeat 8 times to make 4 loops on each side of the center.
Use twine (or plant wire) to secure the middle. Cut the excess ribbon.
Cut a 3 inch piece of ribbon to wrap around the center of the bow. Secure with hot glue. Hot glue that to the front of your door hang.
Take a 24 inch piece of ribbon and secure the end with hot glue leaving about 5 inches.
Glue the attached portion of the ribbon to the center piece, on the other side of the bow.
I like to use the plant wire to secure the hanging ribbon to the back of the plant. Just wrap some wire around the stems of the pine making sure the hanging ribbon is secure to center.
Your masterpiece is done!
ohhhhh I love this, so easy but so elegant looking. I really like things that are simple, I think i will make a trip to michaels and give this one a try. Thank you!!
Lori, I can’t wait to see how yours turns out!
I love this project! The door hanger is beautiful! I’ll have to remember it when I’m decorating next year!
Glad you enjoyed this project! It was pretty easy to make. I say it was under 45 minutes altogether.
This hint of the holidays is perfect for bringing a little bit of nature inside for a small personal altar space. Back to basics is my theme for this year and I’m looking forward to simplifying things. Thanks for sharing.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Simplicity is the name of the game this year as Christmas has crept up so quickly.
Beautiful! Great step by step instructions! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks, Lee Anne! I’m glad you can understand the instructions alongside the visuals. I was a little nervous trying to describe the steps because I am a better doer than an explainer.
That’s lovely! Any tips for using live cuts?
Thanks, Holly! In terms of live cuts, I would use more plant wire or twine to secure the middle of your piece. I would mist it often, and try to keep it out of direct sunlight (I think the pine needles will fall off if they’re dry). Hope this helps!
This is such a cute idea, and I love the ribbon you chose. I’ll definitely be recreating this!
Molly, thanks! Everything, minus the plant wire, is from Target or Hobby Lobby. This whole thing was under $10 if you have hot glue at home! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
