That red lip, man. Sexy, bold, spicy, classic, glam — you name it, and it’s the color that can be anything you want it to be. Iconic in so many ways, it’s an important piece of arsenal to have in everyone’s makeup drawer for the best glam night out. 

I love a great red lipstick that’s bold, and I purchased more than one because I not only wanted to try the different brands out myself, but to stash them in different pockets and purses just in case I forgot to bring the one I was wearing from home. These are the 3 go-to matte red lipstick brands that I swear by along with my reviews.

Younique | Splash Liquid Lipstick in Sizzling
Why I love this:
This lip gloss is buttery soft and super pigmented. My lips stay super soft the whole day without any drying or caking. You don’t need much for your lips as it applies very smoothly.

Keep In Mind:
The applicator tip is a little long for me, but I use the very end of the applicator to comfortably color the edges of my lips and then fill in the rest. It does rub off and can get messy if you do make a mistake when applying. It also tends to bleed, but a quick outline and fill with some lip liner is a quick fix. You can also set it with a tissue and some translucent powder for a beautiful finish that stays all day long.

Why I love this:
Yooo this is RIHANNA’s makeup line — what more can I say? All Fenty Beauty products that I have owned or tried melted into my face, so it feels like I’m not wearing anything even if it’s full coverage. This is probably the best in the business in terms of staying power. This doesn’t come off too easily if I’m eating or drinking which is a huge perk. The applicator is shaped differently and the product itself is a little more liquid which gives me a ton of control.

Keep In Mind:
This does make my lips super dry, and it is hard to fix if you make a mistake. There have been a lot of f-bombs and some tears in my bathroom because of it. But, some lip balm on top will keep your lips kissable and buttery soft, and a good makeup remover can help you take it off and start over again if you need (I use this one).

Why I love this:
Wet ‘n Wild Cosmetics has been one of my favorite brands since I was little, and it’s super accessible; you can buy it at Target or any drugstore. Also, it’s under $10. Don’t let the price tag fool you, though. It’s still just as pigmented as its cousins above, and it’s super easy to apply and remove. I love it because if I make a mistake when reapplying on-the-go, I can easily wipe it off and reapply it. It’s also very moisturizing without any caking or drying throughout the day. On top of that, it is cruelty-free and vegan, for those of you who are mindful of how your products are tested and made.

Keep In Mind:
Because it’s easy to take on and off, it does not stay very well, so don’t forget to take it with you when you head out the door because reapplication is inevitable. I like to use a lip liner to outline and fill out my pout and set it with translucent powder to keep it on a little longer.
